Kentucky clerk Kim Davis was jailed by a U.S. District Judge about a week ago for refusing to issue gay marriage licenses. The Judge hinted Davis might be jailed until she complied and pledged to issue the licenses, but Davis made it clear she would not change her position.
It looks like Davis has now won the game of political chicken. The Judge just ordered her release to take place.
Gannam said U.S. District Judge David Bunning, who jailed Davis, orderered her release early Tuesday afternoon.
Its six days two late, Gannam said, but were glad Judge Bunning has ordered her release.
Gannam said he had not yet spoken with Davis, and was not sure if she was still being held.
What happens next is not known. Davis is an elected official who says she will not change her mind and she will not resign. Jail didnt change that and options the government is left with to try and force compliance are now limited.
