Ah…the age old debate. Which platform has the ‘best’ version of a game? While we will not be touching that one with a 10 foot pole right now, Konami has attempted to show us which platform will offer the greatest benefits in terms of graphics.
To no one’s surprise, the PC version comes out on top – provided that you’re running on max video settings, which would require you to have a pretty hefty setup. If you have that, then congratulations: you will be playing the prettiest version of this game (and you have earned my envy).
The rest of us don’t have a lot to mourn though. If the screens Konami released are anything to go by, then the console versions (at least the current gen ones) are far from shabby. See for yourself!
PlayStation 4 vs PlayStation 3
As you can see, the PlayStation 4 boasts higher texture quality, depth of field and denser foliage than the PlayStation 3.
Phantom Pain will also run at 1080p resolution and 60 FPS on the PlayStation 4 while it will be 720p and 30 frames per second on the PlayStation 3.
Xbox One vs Xbox 360
The differences between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One are apparent here in terms of resolution, the depth of field on Big Boss in the foreground, and overall texture quality. The lighting effects on the previous generation leaves some to be desired as well.
Phantom Pain will run at 720p resolution on the Xbox 360 with 30 FPS. The Xbox One will be running at 900p resolution, while outputting at 1080p along with 60 FPS.
Steam (PC)/PlayStation 4
The PC version wins in graphical comparisons boasting sharper textures, higher resolutions, and even better depth of fields.
Running on optimal settings, the PC will version of Phantom Pain will run on resolutions up to 3840×2160 and 60 FPS depending on the configuration of your PC.
There you have it! In all honesty, I’m going to be pretty happy with my Playstation 4 version of Phantom Pain. Yes, I can push the limits and play a better looking version on PC, but unlike in the previous generations, the differences are not that noticeable anymore.
Which platform will you be playing at and will this graphics comparison affect the version of Phantom Pain you will be buying? Don’t hesistate to share below!
