A White Long Island middle school teacher is lucky to be alive after being violently assaulted by a Black students mother, 14-year old cousin and other students yet another racial attack on a teacher in what has become a national epidemic.
The brutal assault took place in the halls of Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School in Hempstead on Wednesday, according to ABC 7.
Parent Annika McKenzie, 34, reportedly showed up to the school and bypassed security to confront veteran teacher Catherine Engelhardt. McKenzie accused the teacher of putting her hands on her 12-year-old daughter earlier that day, a charge the teacher and school administrators denied.
Engelhardt called security right away but help didnt arrive until after she was shoved against the wall, placed in a headlock and thrown to the ground, according to authorities.
Video footage shows Engelhardt unconscious as she lay on the floor.
Its not like I thought a parent would do something, but I knew something violent was going to happen, Engelhardt later told ABC 7. Ive warned [school authorities] time and time again that the children have no respect for adults.
Yes, I fear for my safety. They cant control the kids.
Shes recovering from the attack at home.
Several kids were part of the assault that sent Engelhardt to the hospital. It was reported that students, including McKenzies 14-year-old niece, punched and kicked the teacher after she was thrown to the ground.
McKenzies attorney absurdly claims his future felon client only did what any parent would do.
Any parent would beat a teacher unconscious if she had a gripe with them? Seriously?
As any loving parent, if someone puts their hands on your child, youre going to react, he said.
But ABC 7 reported there is no absolutely evidence that Engelhardt assaulted or even touched a student, and no charges against her have been filed.
There is, however, video of the violent assault against Engelhardt but the school is refusing to release it. It doesnt take a genius to know why.
For months, TRN has been reporting on the upsurge of Black-on-White classroom attacks since Ferguson, including shocking assaults on elderly White teachers in New Jersey and Houston in January, and a 70-year old teacher in Maryland, and brutal assault of a teacher in Florida, in February.
And the racial breakdown of students at this school? According to Great Schools, it is as follows:
White teachers are increasingly taking their life in their hands when they take a job at such an overwhelmingly minority-majority school, a situation present at all 4 prior assaults mentioned above occurred.
